

SB 525
Starting June 1, 2024, most health facility employers must pay their employees a minimum wage of $23.00 an hour. The California law will incrementally raise the minimum wage every year by $1 until 2026 when the wage reaches $25.00 an hour.
Key Dates:
(A) From June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025, inclusive, twenty-three dollars ($23) per hour.
(B) From June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026, inclusive, twenty-four dollars ($24) per hour.
(C) From June 1, 2026, and until adjusted under subdivision (d), twenty-five dollars ($25) per hour.
Requirements
Which employees are covered?
Nurses, physicians, caregivers, medical residents, interns, or fellows, janitors, housekeepers, groundskeepers, guards, clerical workers, nonmanagerial administrative workers, food service workers, gift shop workers, technical and ancillary services workers, medical coding and medical billing personnel, schedulers, call centers and warehouse workers, and laundry workers.
Who is considered a “Healthcare Facility Employer”?
- Any covered healthcare facility employer, as defined, with 10,000 or more full-time equivalent employees (FTEE).
- Any covered healthcare facility employer that is part of an integrated healthcare delivery system or a healthcare system with 10,000 or more FTEEs.
- A covered healthcare facility employer that is a dialysis clinic, or is a person that owns, controls, or operates a dialysis clinic.
- A covered health facility owned, affiliated, or operated by a county with a population of more than 5,000,000 as of January 1, 2023.
