On July 31st, 2024 the UC Riverside union members of AFSCME 3299 rallied in support of a fair contract alongside their fellow union members across the University of California system. AFSCME 3299 has been bargaining with the University of California administration since January and they have yet to come to an agreement, with their contract expiring July 31st, 2024. Union members repeated chants, with one resounding theme: a need for housing. High rents that don’t match up with wages are an issue across the University of California system, and bargaining continues with that in mind. Attendees of the rally included rank-and-file union members, sympathetic workers, in addition to State Assembly member Clarissa Cervantes, State Senator Richard Roth, and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond. We as the IELC wish all the best to AFSCME 3299 workers in securing a fair contract, and will continue to support them! Photos linked below.
