Mental health therapists at Kaiser Permanente have been fighting for more than a decade to make California’s biggest HMO provide mental health care that meets their patients needs.
With Kaiser required to pay a record $50 state million fine and transform its mental health delivery system, now is the time for Kaiser patients to join in this fight to hold Kaiser accountable.
Please share this new website that details the long struggle waged by Kaiser therapists to better serve their patients and provides patients an opportunity to share their Kaiser mental health stories.
In contract negotiations, Kaiser therapists and other mental health professionals in Southern California are making proposals to increase staffing and secure more time for patient care duties. While Kaiser is failing mental health patients throughout the state, the situation is worse in Southern California, where Kaiser:
- Employs fewer therapists than in Northern California.
- Provides therapists only half as much time for patient care duties as in Northern California.
- Singles out therapists for lower pay and poorer benefits, resulting in increased turnover.
Kaiser can’t fix its mental healthcare system unless it treats all of its therapists and patients fairly. When patients come forward with Kaiser stories, Kaiser therapists are in a stronger position to win improvements to patient care.
