On September 19th, the IELC joined the Boeing worker’s picket line in Victorville, California just outside the Southern California Logistics Airport. While there the team spoke with workers about a variety of things. In between laughs and great stories, we also covered more serious topics. Among the topics discussed were contract negotiations and the lack of mortgage sustaining wages at Boeing, in addition to the drop in benefits that was seen on the most recent contract which was not accepted by workers. An aspect of the contract negotiations that was covered was how the initial contract had was misleading: there would be a 25% wage increase over the next 4 years but it would come at the expense of healthcare coverage! Copays would about double for workers, amid other losses in benefits, so it would ultimately make their “raise” an expensive one! Worker’s don’t just need good pay, but good health too!
One Boeing worker told us how in his lifetime, a Boeing worker could previously buy a home on their salary alone. Now, his daughter and son-in-law who both work at Boeing cannot even afford to buy a house together! Boeing forced workers to go on strike – by not negotiating in good faith. Let’s all support Boeing workers in their fight to get what they deserve!
