Affiliates: Contact the IELC to have our staff come to your membership meetings and promote our voter guide!
On September 28th, 2024, the IELC joined UDW for their membership meeting. This was done in order to promote the voter guide and getting out the vote in general, pushing for members and their families to vote alongside their union siblings. Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the IELC Ricardo Cisneros was present, and spoke to the need for union members to be active in local politics and elect people who will listen to labor. The content of his speech was very similar to the call-to-action found on our Vote 2024 page which reads as follows:
Brothers & Sisters,
On November 5th our vote should be about electing candidates who will stand on the side of the working class and have the ability to create policy supporting the creation of good mortgage sustainable jobs, affordable housing, retirement security, and healthcare for all.
It’s about understanding the struggles that families go through each day trying to put food on the table, pay the rent, purchase their meds, and hopefully have a few dollars left over at the end of the month. It’s about the struggle of our members and their children as they try to determine how to pay for college. It’s about the lack of good jobs awaiting people in the Inland Empire after their education or apprenticeship program.
It’s about the imbalance of economics that has obliterated the middle class.
An economist named John Husing stated that the Inland Empire is Cheap Labor and Cheap Dirt, people like Husing and the corporations/politicians he consults for is what has brought down the quality of life in the Inland Empire.
It’s time to take back and restore the IE, but we also know that at the end of the day, it’s about the 50+ year assault on workers and their Unions that has led to the destruction of the once cherished “American Dream.”Those were political decisions and that’s why Politics is not a Spectator Sport for the IELC!
Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Inland Empire Labor Council, Ricardo Cisneros
Thank you to UDW for allowing the IELC to attend your membership meeting – it was a great group of people to be with! We look forward to attending other membership meetings as well, affiliates please contact us so we can establish a date and time!
