More Information from SEIU-UHW:
Outpatient dialysis clinic workers in California have been fighting for many years to improve patient care at their corporate-owned clinics. California dialysis workers began to win their elections to establish SEIU-UHW representation nearly two years ago. Workers at other clinics have won their own Union elections since then.
Unfortunately, corporate executives for Satellite, DaVita, and the other major outpatient dialysis titans who collectively manage more than 90% of the clinics in California have continued to do everything they can, including violating Federal Labor law, to frustrate the organized efforts of their employees to improve the short staffing and other inferior patient care conditions which inspired the workers to form their Union. Strikes at dozens of California dialysis clinics last year did not convince managers of these corporate clinics to bargain in good faith with their workers so first contracts can be settled which will improve staffing levels and other patient care conditions.
Outpatient dialysis workers throughout California want their employers to stop violating the rights of workers and to stop retaliating against caregivers who are trying to improve patient care and their working conditions. Dialysis caregivers are calling for executives at DaVita, Fresenius and other dialysis corporations in California to work with them over solutions to chronic staffing shortages, their demands for fair wages, and to stop employing union-busting tactics in response to workers exercising their right to form their unions. The workers have decided more action is necessary to stop unfair labor practices and secure safer conditions for both workers and patients.
Dialysis clinic caregivers are providing life-saving health care to many of the most vulnerable and important residents. These workers have voted to take their next major step to alert the community to their struggles so that short staffing and other patient care conditions can finally be improved in this rogue industry. These workers invite you to join them as they take these important actions!
