NUHW members in Southern California are nearing 100 days on strike, continuing with their core demand of equity with their Northern California counterparts. It is urgent that we all show our support and solidarity with Kaiser Behavioral Healthcare Workers, as their strike goes on!

To gain clarity, we spoke with Jessica Rentz, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Union Steward a little over a week ago to get updates on bargaining, and other key details from this point in the strike.

A bargaining session ended up happening on January 16th, however it was ultimately unproductive. In an official press release, NUHW stated “In the first negotiating session since October, Kaiser Permanente failed to present any new proposals aimed at reaching an agreement to end the strike by its nearly 2,400 Southern California mental health therapists, social workers, psychiatric nurses and psychologists that is now in its 13th week.”

Rentz spoke to how NUHW is approaching negotiations and how important it is to them to keep their demands front and center.

“We want to be treated as equals, and we deserve that equity.”

Speaking to fellow NUHW members and all supporters, Rentz underscored how proud she was of everybody out on the line, and pointed to how support allows for the strike to keep going.
