IOWA Rally for Department of People Who Work For A Living | Monday, February 24th, 3:15 PM at the Iowa State Capitol, West Side, Outside

This morning, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revoked collective bargaining rights for Transportation Security Officers (TSOs), stripping 47,000 TSA employees—represented by our union siblings at the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE)—of their voice on the job.

Collective bargaining, a legally protected process, ensures workers have a say in wages, hours, and working conditions. By dismantling these rights, DHS is setting what is to come for other federal agencies and unions. This is nothing less than retaliation against federal employees for standing up for their rights over the last few weeks.

AFGE released the following statement this morning:

“Our union has been out in front challenging this administration’s unlawful actions targeting federal workers, both in the legal courts and in the court of public opinion. Now our TSA officers are paying the price with this clearly retaliatory action.”

TSA may be first to see this but it will not be the last. We are witnessing the privatization of our government’s agencies in real-time. Removing union status weakens the labor movement while effectively taking away worker’s rights and protections.

Now more than ever, we must fight back—together we can win. This administration has shown its true colors: anti-worker, anti-union, and anti-democracy.
