Marching for USPS: San Bernardino Takes a Stand

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready…

On March 20th, members of the American Postal Workers Union (APWU) and allies participated in a National Day of Action. This is part of a campaign in defense of the United States Postal Service. The mobilization took place in protest of the Trump Administration’s moves to privatize the postal service. In addition, unions protested Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s agreement with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This agreement will cut billions from the USPS budget and eliminate over 10,000 jobs.

The IELC joined workers at the USPS San Bernardino Processing & Distribution Center to show solidarity and march alongside APWU members from across the region. As workers marched, cars honked in support amid chants in support of “The People’s Post Office.”

US Mail? Not for sale!

This rally was just one of many in the campaign to support USPS and Post Offices across the United States. The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) are also hosting a series of nationwide rallies on March 23rd to say “Hell no!” to privatizing and dismantling USPS.

The IELC was able to speak with longtime USPS workers and members of APWU at the rally. Key concerns revolved around how privatization would hurt the public and the workers who are mandated by law to serve everyone.

APWU members showed that the Inland Empire is standing up strong alongside all other USPS unions. Let’s all join them and say: Hands off our public Postal Service!
