Celebrating César Chávez Day: Honoring Labor History

Recently, the IELC has had the honor of celebrating César Chávez Day. We were happy to see many events celebrating this great holiday.

On April 1st, the City of Moreno Valley honored our Executive Secretary-Treasurer Ricardo Cisneros with a proclamation recognizing César Chávez Day.

Thank you to the City of Moreno Valley, for celebrating labor history and uplifting the contributions of our local labor movement. The Inland Empire is built by workers—union and non-union—fighting for dignity, justice, and each other.

As César Chávez said, “It was never about the grapes or lettuce. It was always about people.”

The IELC continued recognizing the holiday a few days after Moreno Valley’s proclamation. We joined the Riverside Latino Network for their annual César Chávez Breakfast on April 4th.

Victor Quiroz of UAW 230, Robert Ramos of Ironworkers Local 416, Carmella Swanson of OPEIU Local 277, Ricardo Cisneros of the Inland Empire Labor Council, Jason Becker of IUOE Local 12, Mauro Varela of ATU 1277, and Diana Gandara of USW 7600.

Labor Council delegates and Executive Board members attended the event, representing Labor in the region.

Once again, thank you to the Latino Network for the opportunity to join them for this great breakfast. As union members we are proud sponsors of his legacy. A legacy that created two of the largest immigrant representing unions in history. The United Farm Workers of America (UFW) and the United Domestic Workers (UDW).

Check out our flyer below, included in the breakfast program. Let’s continue to honor the legacy of César Chávez by striving towards a united and fighting working class. Si se puede!
