What is happening?

At the start of March, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revoked collective bargaining rights for 47,000 Transportation Security Officers (TSOs), stripping our union siblings at the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) of their voice on the job. In response, the Inland Empire Labor Council, AFL-CIO is organizing two critical actions alongside AFGE Local 1260 to demand the restoration of their rights to representation.

On Thursday March 27, the attacks escalated. President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order gutting collective bargaining rights for federal workers across multiple agencies, including those responsible for national security, border protection, energy security, pandemic preparedness, cybersecurity, economic defense, and public safety. This is a full-scale assault on our labor rights, and we must fight back.

What can I do?

It’s time for everyone to act and demand Congress do its job – by standing up for workers and stopping the Trump Administration as well as DOGE from illegally gutting federal agencies and ending collective bargaining rights.

The Inland Empire Labor Council will be hosting two actions in solidarity with federal workers across the country, and those in our region. We invite join us to support federal workers and stand against the war on the working class. Additionally, you can take action by contacting congressmember Ken Calvert. Calling scripts and email templates below.

Tell Congress to stand against Trump’s Illegal Executive Order

President Trump’s blatantly illegal executive order is the textbook definition of union-busting. This is a warning to the labor movement: speak out and you’re next.

However, we will never back down or apologize for standing with working people. We are targeting Republican Congressmember Ken Calvert, who represents a swing district here in the Inland Empire. He’s been a strong voice of support for DOGE’s efforts to dismantle the federal government and put hundreds-of-thousands of federal workers out of jobs and fundamental union rights. Put pressure on Ken Calvert and demand that he stand with the working families of the 41st District and reign in Trump’s abuse of power. Now is the time to be loud.

Call Congress

Phone Script:

Hello my name is [FIRST NAME] and I am calling to express my extreme opposition with President Trump’s illegal executive order ending collective bargaining for federal workers. This is a blatant attack on the fundamental rights of hundreds of thousands of patriotic American civil servants – nearly a third of whom are veterans – simply because they are members of a union that has stood up to his harmful policies. I am calling on Congressmember Calvert to stand with the working families and veterans of the 41st District – not with unelected billionaires.

Congressmember Ken Calvert,

I am emailing you to express my extreme opposition with President Trump’s recent illegal executive order ending collective bargaining for federal workers. This is a blatant attack on the fundamental rights of hundreds of thousands of patriotic American civil servants – nearly a third of whom are veterans – simply because they are members of a union that stood up for their rights to pursue the American dream.

This Executive Order uses “national security” as a political weapon to silence federal workers who have protected this country with integrity for decades. From VA nurses to EPA scientists to cybersecurity experts at CISA, these workers have always operated under collective bargaining without compromising national security. This move is not about protection—it’s about power.

I am calling on Congressmember Calvert to stand with the working families and veterans of the 41st District and reign in this retaliatory abuse of power.
