Starting on October 14th and going until the early hours of October 19th, the Alliance of Healthcare Unions at Kaiser Permanente began a 5 day long strike. This strike took place across both California and Hawai’i.
Participating unions in California include UNAC/UHCP and the United Steelworkers Local 7600. Over 46,000 workers walked out and stood strong against Kaiser’s unfair labor practices.

Their key demands were around safe staffing levels, fair pay, and quality care for patients. We spoke to members of both unions throughout the strike to understand the deeper roots of these issues. See our interviews & dispatches from the picket line below:
- Words from Executive Secretary-Treasurer Ricardo Cisneros
- Interview with UNAC/UHCP Member Doug Wong
- Interview with UNAC/UHCP Member Monica
- Words from UNAC/UHCP Member Nicole Jimenez and President of USW 7600 Michael Barnett
With bargaining currently ongoing, we hope Kaiser comes to the table with an offer these workers and their patients deserve. Solidarity to the members as they secure a fair contract!
