On Tuesday, In-Home Supportive Service Providers (IHSS) represented by United Domestic Workers of America (UDW) arrived early to the Riverside County Board of Supervisors meeting to support the proposed contract renewal with the county.
The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to pass the union contract after months of bargaining with members.
Rachel Terry, a Riverside IHSS Provider and UDW member, gave public comment to talk about the difference the IHSS program makes in allowing her to provide excellent care for her nephew from the comfort of their home. Other providers cheered Terry from the front row while wearing their UDW union shirts and holiday gear.

The New Contract
The new contract, is set to begin in January 2026 and extend until June 2029. It includes two hourly wage increases. The first increase will be on May 1, 2026, and the second increase in 2028. The county will also contribute more towards health and life insurance for IHSS Providers.

Providers also won additional benefits through their contract that would help ensure higher quality of care for patients. Amongst them, increased funding for training and PPE for IHSS Providers, and $50,000 every year for transportation assistance such as gas cards, bus passes, and other transportation.

The Inland Empire Labor Council would like to congratulate our union siblings who have been working towards this victory for months. Care work is the lifeline of our communities, and essential to the success of all workers.
